The Mount Snow Golf Club is open and is in spectacular condition coming out of the 2010/11 winter. In speaking with Erik Barnes, Director of Golf, he was very excited as to how strong the course has held up. Bryan White our Superintendent has done some fantastic course work the last few summers to address our cold and brutal winters. Our topdressing program for the greens that was implemented last season has started to show benefits to the overall health of the course. We will continue to improve the playing surface of the greens during the season, with topdressing, and aerification.
There are a couple new things to look for including a new tee box at the first hole. The maintenance team has leveled the existing red, gold, and white tees and if you look to the left you’ll notice a new box. The Tee Box is still receiving some sod and needs to grow in but look for that to open up in a few weeks. This new tee box will give golfers a different look at the fairway with a lower tee off and the trees on the left more in play.
Pitt has been in the excavator this early season and cleaned up the areas around the water hazard ponds on holes #5, #7, and #18 to continue help with the ongoing drainage program we have been working on for the last 4 years.

Jay Morelli is back, (very tan as well, I might add) along with his entire staff for another season at the Original Golf School. Dress Rehearsals are right around the corner and begin tomorrow, Tuesday May 17th. Dress Rehearsals are 2-day schools and like the name would indicate these are our earliest schools giving our pros a few days to get back acclimated to teaching and to the Vermont weather.
The Mount Snow Golf Club, if you’ve never played it, is a beautiful course overlooking the Green Mountains, Haystack and Mount Snow. Our course is truly a “mountain” course where many holes will provide some interesting lies and blind shots to the green. The beauty that surrounds our course is magnificent and playing twilight I’ll often find myself looking over the mountains at the shadows that the low-lying sun creates.

My personal favorite hole is lucky #13. This par four has a long sloping hill and from the tee box you should be aiming your drive right at the summit of Mount Snow! A good drive can land you within a short chip of the green. Others may opt for an iron off the tee box to line up a longer shot in from atop the hill.
Fairways is back open and has a brand new – huge menu! My wife and I had lunch at Fairways on Saturday and we were surprised at the great variety available. Right now Fairways offers an early season limited menu but you can view the entire menu and it includes some tasty lunch & dinner options including ahi tuna salad, French dip sandwich, wings, soups and Lobster Rolls! Saturday nights starting Memorial Day weekend join us for live music and a bbq on our deck.

There are many fun tournaments, leagues, and mini-games/promos that take place at the course. Monday nights are designated Men’s League nights with multiple games including Las Vegas nights where players must roll die that feature white, red, and blue sides. You tee off from the color that your partner rolls for you. Always a good time to watch your partner who just rolled a red for you to walk back to the blue tees sometimes 50 yards behind you to tee off! Ladies League takes place on Tuesdays.
June 9th is the annual Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, July 10th Olympic Champion Kelly Clark takes over the golf course for her 2nd annual charity tournament to benefit the Kelly Clark Foundation and then on July 31st it is the Jill E Harrington-Hanzalik Charity Tourney. Jill was taken from us way too early and her foundation focuses on providing the stepping-stones for young people to chase and achieve their dreams through financial assistance, encouragement and guidance.
Finally September 16th we host the annual Vermont Make A Wish Golf Tournament. Many other member & guest events take place throughout the season. Look for a new calendar to be installed outside Fairways and any info can be obtained at the Pro Shop.
Hope to see you down out on the links!
